Do you know of Design Thinking?

Design Thinking is an approach and mindset for solving complex problems with creativity and empathy. It has become increasingly essential in today’s corporate and innovation landscapes.

At its core, Design Thinking focuses on desirability: starting with a deep understanding of user needs instead of looking at challenges only through a technological lens [feasibility] or a business lens [viability]. By putting human needs first, it ensures that solutions are not just feasible and viable but also truly meaningful and desirable for the people they are created for.

Application Process

The application form is in English but can be answered in German

Application deadline: XXX

Round 1

Show your motivation

In the first round, we would like to understand who you are. Tell us about your academic (and professional) background, what you have learned so far, and how your current skills and personality make you a good fit for the program.

We value applicants who are team players, eager to grow, and ready to take ownership.

Round 2

Preselection of the CCC Cohort

Once you’ve submitted the first round of your application, we take the time to carefully select the most motivated and committed individuals.

We'll then let you know as soon as possible whether you’re moving on to the next round or not.

Round 3

Test your skills

If your motivation shines through, you’ll move on to the mini-challenge.

This step gives us a chance to see how you think, how you tackle problems, and how you draw from your own experiences to find creative solutions. But it’s also for you — a short, playful, and exciting preview to help you decide if the CCC journey is what you’re looking for. Think of it as a quick taste of what’s to come.

Round 4

Selection of the CCC Cohort

After all mini-challenge submissions, we will carry out a careful and holistic review process. Only the applicants who submit the most thoughtful, passionate, and well-crafted solutions will be offered one of the limited spots in the cohort.

If your application doesn’t quite make it this time, you’ll either receive a a rejection or be given the option to join the waitlist in case a spot opens. In cases of rejection, we highly encourage you to apply for next batch.

Program Timeline

For the newly selected cohort, the journey is just beginning! To make the most of the CCC experience filled with learnings, challenges, and exciting moments, we will follow the structure below.

Week 1-2

Week 1-2

Batch Kickoff and Launch Event

We start things off by getting you settled into the program. You’ll meet your fellow participants, your team, your corporate partner, and your mentor. Most importantly, you’ll get familiar with design thinking and how we’ll use it throughout the 14 weeks.

Week 3-6

Week 3-6

Challenge Exploration

In this phase, you’ll dive deep into the challenge provided by your corporate partner. Your ob is to understand the root of the problem by researching the context and market. Using different innovation techniques, you’ll make sense of your findings and define who your users are and what they truly need. Collaboration with other teams is highly encouraged here and throughout.

Week 7-9

Week 7-9

Solution Design Phase

Once the problem is clear, it’s time to come up with adequate solutions. You’ll go from brainstorming ideas to refining and prototyping them into a concept. The goal is to develop a product or service that meets your users' real needs.

Week 10-11

Week 10-11

Solution Validation and Pitching

A good product isn't one you like, it's one your users love. That’s why user testing is so important. You’ll take your concept out into the real world to iterate and validate it. Your mentors will be there to guide and support you. You’ll also learn how to pitch your solution in a convincing and engaging way, which is key for the finals.

Week 12-14

Week 12-14

Final Evening and Submissions

To wrap it all up, you’ll get the chance to showcase your solution in front of your corporate partner. You might even pitch it to a broader audience. Afterwards, you get two weeks to work on and submit your final deliverables.

FAQs

Find answers to your most pressing questions about the Corporate Campus Challenge program.

Is CCC happening in winter 2025?

No. For the first time since it launched, the Corporate Campus Challenge will not take place during the Winter Semester. We’ve taken time to reflect on alumni feedback and are working on scaling your experience even further. The next batch will take place in our brand-new Gravity building during Summer Semester 2026.

Who can apply?

Any individual, 18 years or older with strong intrinsic motivation can apply.  You can do so only individually (not as a team), as working in a diverse and interdisciplinary team is a key part of your learning journey.
CCC is aimed at change-makers and innovators and is therefore open to anyone who would like to contribute to help solve a meaningful real-world challenge from one of our corporate partners. Hence, we consider everyone, from students to experienced professionals.

What is the content of the program?

The goal is to enable you to act entrepreneurially by tackling a real challenge from a company. You will learn and apply the Design Thinking approach and Lean Startup methodology while working with your corporate partner at eye level. This means collaborating within and beyond your team, using innovative tools throughout each stage of the process. You won’t be alone in this journey, as every team is supported by a dedicated coach and a corporate expert over the full 14 weeks and more

What is the content of the workshops?

The workshops focus on Design Thinking including what it is, what belongs in its toolbox, and how and when to apply which tool. Each session combines input with direct application to your challenge, so you learn by doing. You’ll explore how to uncover the conscious and unconscious needs of potential customers and validate them using the right methods. From there, you’ll ideate, test, and iterate solutions ideas and prototypes. Beyond solving the given challenge, the workshops equip you with the mindset and tools to creatively approach future problems.

What if I could only attend virtually?

Don’t worry! All of our sessions are offered in a hybrid setting, so you can still attend remotely without missing out on anything important.

How much does it cost?

Joining the program is free for our participants. You just need to bring your motivation, passion, and willingness to learn. We take care of the rest.

How many hours will I need to invest?

You’ll spend an average of 8 hours per week over the 14 weeks of the program.
This includes the mandatory cohort and coaching sessions, plus a few hours on your own or with your team to complete some tasks and submissions.

What sessions do I need to attend?

The mandatory sessions to attend are our weekly cohort sessions and coaching sessions. The cohort sessions take place either on Thursday evenings, or on Saturdays, for the longer workshops. The coaching sessions also happen weekly on a day that your team and your coach agree on.
In addition, we have some extra cohort-building sessions such as game nights and networking evenings that are offered for you to have a fully rounded experience during the run of CCC.

What is Design thinking?

Design Thinking is a user-centered innovation method that helps you deeply understand a problem before developing a solution. It is the core methodology we use throughout the program, guiding your progress from exploration to validation.

What will be the language of the program?

English. As such, we can ensure a diverse and inclusive environment. We expect all participants to speak and write basic English – not perfectly, but you should be comfortable expressing yourself and your thoughts.

Can I work on my own business idea during the program?

No, the focus of the program is on solving real challenges provided by our corporate partners. While you’ll build valuable skills that can later support your own entrepreneurial projects, CCC is about teamwork, innovation, and impact within a specific challenge context.
If you're eager to work on your own idea, we recommend applying to one of our other Campus Founders programs after completing CCC.

When do we start developing our solutions?

The program is split into two main phases. In the first phase, you’ll focus on understanding the challenge, identifying the real problem, and defining the right problem statement.
The second phase, starting at week 7, is when you can start creating and testing your solution. It’s important to follow the process step by step and to stay aligned with your coach and team during each phase.

Will I own the Intellectual Property of my invention?

Short answer: Yes, you will! All details are written down in our AGBs.

Will I get ECTS for my participation?

For all HHN students: The Corporate Campus Challenge is part of the Studium Generale. Therefore, if you choose Corporate Campus Challenge you will receive ECTS from HHN.
For all HUGS students: The Corporate Campus is part of the elective study program. The students need to register with the University to receive the ECTS.
For all TUM students: The Corporate Campus Challenge is part of the elective study program. All BMT, BMDS, and MiM students will receive ECTS for their participation.
For all Uni Viadrina students: The Corporate Campus is part of the elective study program. The students need to fill in the official application form and also register with the University to receive the ECTS.
For THM students:
In general, if your university provides ECTS, remember to register for the corresponding course at the beginning of the semester and read through the university’s guideline for receiving ECTS.
But if you are only an “ECTS-hunter” – looking for the most fun way to get ECTS – this is not the right program for you.

How concrete will my business idea be by end of the program?

With CCC, you move from deeply understanding the problem to creating a semi-validated prototype. Don’t expect to have a fully developed MVP by the end of the program, as your solution idea will likely still need refinement and further validation. For that next step, we offer other programs, such as AI Start, where you can continue validating and prototyping your idea before moving on to the Incubator to develop a full MVP.

What does it mean to successfully complete the program?

Successful completion means showing commitment, collaboration, and learning. You are expected to attend all cohort and coaching sessions - missing up to 3 is allowed with prior notification via your coach -, to submit high-quality assignments, and to present a solution that fits the challenge you worked on.
More than that, success in CCC means personal growth. You should graduate with a better understanding of your working style, which one of your skills needs improvement, and what entrepreneurship means for you.

What will happen after the program ends?

After CCC, you and your team can decide how to move forward. You may want to keep working with your corporate partner to refine and implement your solution.
If your team prefers to continue independently and possibly turn the idea into a startup, you can apply for one of our advanced programs like AI Start or the Campus Founders Incubator.
In addition, you can also hand over the rights to the solution to the corporate partner, in those cases where you have a convincing solution, but you and your team cannot keep working on it.
For those of you who really enjoyed the program and would love to shape the next batch and its cohort, we openly invite you to apply to become a CCC Catalyst. Being one involves spreading encouraging words about the program to potential applicants, taking part in special events, and getting a chance to shadow coach.
